For those wishing for a Ford Maverick, there’s a bit of good news. Ford has not only reopened its order bank for 2023, and added a Tremor Off-Road Package similar to the package offered on the Bronco Sport, Explorer, Edge, Ranger, F-150, Super Duty and Transit.
The new Tremor package is available on mid-level XLT and top-of-the-line Lariat trim levels, delivering a more affordable entry-level option for off-road enthusiasts.
“Ranger, F-150 and Super Duty customers have embraced the unique off-road capability, technology and appearance updates found across our Tremor family of trucks,” said Todd Eckert, Ford truck product marketing and brand manager.
“Maverick Tremor delivers on this same promise with new functions and features designed for off-roading — all while keeping the truck’s signature size, affordability and Built Ford Tough durability and capability.”
The Tremor Package builds on the FX4 Off-Road Package and adds an all-wheel-drive system exclusive to the Maverick. It features a twin-clutch rear-drive unit with a differential lock that provides increased off-road performance, and is capable of directing nearly all engine torque from the rear axle to either wheel.
Drivers can adjust the Maverick Tremor’s on-road and off-road driveline to pavement, mud, sand, snow or towing thanks to five adjustable drive modes. Also, Tremor models will come exclusively with Trail Control, which functions like a cruise control for off-road driving, with the vehicle controlling the throttle and braking after the driver sets the speed.
But there’s more to Ford’s latest off-road rig than trick technology.
The Maverick Tremor also comes equipped with unique front and rear springs and shocks, a 1-inch increase in ride height, a heavy-duty transmission cooler and upgraded half-shafts. It comes shod with unique 17-inch aluminum wheels trimmed in Tremor Orange with a dark gray anodized finish and all-terrain tires.
The Maverick Tremor is powered by a 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine rated at 250 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque and mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Towing is rated at 2,000 pounds; payload is 1,200 pounds.
The Maverick shares its platform with the Ford Escape and the Ford Bronco Sport.
Given its newfound capability, Ford also spiffed up the Maverick Tremor’s wardrobe. The Maverick Tremor’s gets a different grille, while the headlamps, taillamps, and Ford badges are blacked out, while the front tow hooks are painted Tremor Orange.
A Tremor Appearance Package adds a gray-painted roof and mirror caps, black side graphics on the hood and lower body. But there’s added function as well, as Ford revised the lower front fascia with a more pronounced approach angle, and added steel skid plates.
Inside, the changes are more modest, with Tremor emblems sewn into black seats. As you’d expect, Tremor Orange highlights accent the door pulls, center console, and register vents.
The 2023 Ford Maverick Tremor Off-Road Package costs $2,995; Tremor Appearance Package, $1,495.
Ford is planning to restart Maverick production in the fall, with orders opening up in September. The Ford Maverick is built at Ford’s Hermosillo Assembly Plant, in Sonora, Mexico.
Despite supply chain issues, Ford has sold 52,011 Mavericks since it went on sale last year through July 1. The Tremor Package should enhance the Maverick’s desirability, although it’s hardly needed.
In fact, demand for the compact pickup truck was so strong, Ford stopped accepting retail orders for the 2022 model Jan. 27. It’s also won its fair share of awards, including the North American Truck of the Year. It was also named Green Truck of the Year by the GreenCarJournal.com for its hybrid base model. It’s also the most popular car on TikTok.
With the appearance of the Tremor package, its popularity should increase further.
