Anyone else itching to throw on some sandals and fire up the barbeque? Upstate has got all of your grilling and outdoor adventuring needs covered this weekend. First up, this year’s food truck battle with dozens of cuisines to sample, from seafood to salt potatoes. More outside: African drum and dance workshops for the next seven weeks in parks around Syracuse, a rubber duck race in Trumansburg, Big Truck Day for the kids, a history of Green Lakes State Park and so, so many yard sales. If you’d rather indulge in the arts, head to Ithaca for a concert with acoustic guitarist Martin Sexton or the theater production “Delia Divided,” a play about mental health and incarceration. Dave Koechner (Todd Packer from “The Office”) will bring the laughs to Syracuse on Friday and Saturday, and roller derby is back!

You might want to go light on Friday night dinner because Saturday heralds the return of the annual Food Truck Battle to the New York State Fairgrounds. Over 50 trucks from Syracuse, Rochester, Ithaca, Watertown and beyond will roll into the fairgrounds with tacos, ice cream, barbeque, lobster, baked potatoes, Italian ice, PB&Js, pizza, kettle corn and a lot more. Tickets are $10 to get in the gate ($11 after fees online), then $3 to $6 for samples. Kids 11 and under get in free. Actor Dave Koechner, known for playing Todd Packer on “The Office” and Champ Kind from “Anchorman,” will perform at Funny Bone Comedy Club & Restaurant in Syracuse on Friday and Saturday. Koechner currently co-hosts A&E’s “America’s Top Dog,” plays Bill Lewis on ABC’s “The Goldbergs,” voice acts for “American Dad” and has appeared on many other shows. He got his start as a cast member on “Saturday Night Live.” Koechner will take the Funny Bone stage at 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Friday and at 7 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. on Saturday. For the trivia nerds, Koechner will also host “The Office” trivia at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets are $27 per person and can be purchased through syracuse.funnybone.com.

Acoustic guitarist Martin Sexton will play at the Hangar Theatre in Ithaca this weekend. Sexton just released his tenth studio album, produced by three-time Grammy-nominee John Alagia, to acclaim from the Rolling Stones. The guitarist has headlined venues from The Fillmore to Carnegie Hall and his music has appeared in “Scrubs,” “Parenthood,” “Masters of Sex” and more. Sexton’s show will be headlined by Mike Powell. Tickets are $41 after fees and can be purchased through hangartheatre.org.

Non-profit Wacheva Cultural Arts, Inc. will fill Kirk Park in Syracuse with the sounds of African drumming on Saturday for the second weekend of their free music classes series, which will run until the end of June. Show up to the park with a water bottle and clothes you can move in, and dance teacher Biboti Ouikahilo will hand you an instrument and teach you how to groove to the beat. Kids hour is from noon to 12:45 p.m., adult lessons are from 12:45 p.m. to 2 p.m. Ouikahilo will be joined by drummers Kingsley Pipim, Josh Williams and Fafa Faheem for this free outdoors event. Civic Ensemble’s ReEntry Theatre Program will present “Delia Divided,” a play by Judy Tate about a young woman navigating adulthood while dealing with mental health disorders and involvement in the criminal justice system. The show will take place on Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $22 after fees, or pay what you can. Go to civicensemble.org for more information and to buy tickets. The ReEntry Theatre Program is a community for people who have experienced incarceration or court involvement, led by nine formerly incarcerated individuals who recruit, mentor and participate in the theater programs. Masks and proof of vaccination required.

The Trumansburg Rotary Club will host its annual nail-biting Rotary Rubber Duck Race on Saturday to raise money for jaws-of-life equipment for the town’s fire company. At 1 p.m. the ducks will enter Frontenac Creek from the Hector Street bridge and race toward the finish line at East Main Street. The owners of the first, second and third ducks to win will receive $250, $150 or $50 in cash, respectively. You can buy a ticket for one duck for $5 or a team of five ducks for $20 at the town Shur-Save up to 30 minutes before the race. Go to the rotary club’s Facebook page for more information.

Here’s another high-speed event for you. Two home teams will duke it out during the Salt City Roller Derby Home Team Bout at the SRC Arena Gym on Saturday night. Team “Ctrl Salt Delete” will take on “Fast+Flurrious.” New recruits will be introduced at halftime, and they will play a game of sock derby (derby in socks to focus on game-play and not on not falling). Spring means yard sales, and Upstate New York has them in spades this weekend. Pulaski will have sales all over town this weekend, in a coordinated heave-ho of unused garage items. Those will be on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., so just drive around and follow the signs. The Trinity United Methodist Church in Oswego will have a “Nu-2-U and Bake Sale” on Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., plus a bag sale starting at noon on Saturday. A portion of the proceeds will be used to buy socks and clothes for local elementary students. The Church of St. Michael-St. Peter in Syracuse will have a rummage sale on Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It’s $2 at the door on Thursday and free the other days. Well of Hope Church in Syracuse will have a trunk sale on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Lamson Road Community Church in Phoenix will host a community yard sale at the same time. Down the road, Schroeppel Historical Society will have a “Sudden Serendipity Spring Sale” on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Taughannock Garden Club will have a plant sale on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at the First Presbyterian Church in Trumansburg, and the Trinity Catholic School in Oswego will have a yard sale and chicken barbeque from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. the same day. Waterbury Memorial Presbyterian Church in Utica will have a rummage sale on Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon.

Fulton hosts this free event annually, and this year it will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Fulton War Memorial. Kids can climb and explore over a dozen vehicles like fire trucks, police cars, military vehicles, helicopters, construction equipment and more. Quiet hour (no sirens or loud noises) will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. for kids who may have sensory disorders. For more information, head to fultonny.org.

Hope for Heather will host the Teal Ribbon Run/Walk 5K on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at Lewis Park in Minoa. Hope for Heather is an organization dedicated to raising awareness about ovarian cancer and supporting local women and families affected by the disease. Saturday’s 5K was organized by the parents of Heather Weeks, who died of cancer. The 5K is certified and will use electronic chip timing. It’s a gentle asphalt course with a decline for the last quarter mile. Registration is $38 after fees and open until race day. There are also $43 virtual races until May 21 and family and pet options. Registration for the live Saturday run will get you a slice of pizza or beer at Trappers II. Green Lakes State Park will host a history session in their nature center on Sunday at 2 p.m. The state park is etched with the histories of glacier movements, reef growth, Native American communities, boating parties and prisoners of war. Professor Mark Teece from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry has studied the cultural and natural history of the lakes for years and will lead the presentation.
