As speculation runs rampant regarding the reason for Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady‘s sudden 10-day training-camp hiatus, the organization says it’s not anything to worry about.
“Of course, we were going to let him do what he needs to do,” G.M. Jason Licht told WDAE radio, via JoeBucsFan.com. “He’s focused as ever. He’ll come back even more focused. It’s the least of our concerns.”
Licht also emphasized that the absence was pre-planned.
It sounds as if it may have been one of the express terms that were discussed when Brady ended a 40-day retirement to return to the Buccaneers. He clearly had the leverage to secure items like that. You know, a 10-day break during the preseason. A new head coach. Those kinds of things.
So, basically, to the extent that Brady is absent for “personal reasons,” the reason seems to be that he personally didn’t want to be there for the next week and a half. And the Buccaneers aren’t in any position to object.
“It’s the least of our concerns.”
Translation: Tommy had all the leverage.
This is the year the wheels fall off.

Fortunately for the Bucs they have an ex-Jets head coach who is experienced in navigating the sinking ship.
As we saw with Ric Flair’s Last Match, you don’t want to get an injury from overtraining/over-preparing. With someone like Tom Brady, you’re paying him to show up at Week 1 and you’re quite happy to do so.
This will be a glorious ending.
Hopefully it’s not the FBI with a search warrant for Giselle’s wardrobe or something.
Tom Brady could wake up from a 20 year coma and throw for 400 yards !
Just go away and get it over with.
The “How it started – How it ended” headlines will be epic.
Dolphins defense gave TB12 trouble at the yesterday practice especially up front. Buc’s o-line have some injuries up there and Tom has now got to think this over. IMO he even looked a little slower than normal. At this point I’m not sure he wants to be there. Of course this would be a bad look to walk away now but the realization of getting your head taken off at this stage might be enough to call it quits.
2nd retirement coming soon to a theatre near you
Brady’s mother, Galynn, who’s 78, has been in poor health in recent years. Hope that’s not the reason for his absence, of course. But it might be.
The Bucs offensive line is a mess…lost 1 to retirement,1to FA,and 1 to injury….Tom maybe really thinking about calling it Quits for good now.
First of the building blocks to fall.
Didn’t want to practice in the miserable Florida heat.
Listening to some of these comments only means ‘Haters are going to hate no matter what!’ If he was on your favorite team this would be a non-issue!
Translation: The Bucs are very concerned with Tom Brady’s absence
It doesn’t sound like Brady is all-in this year, which doesn’t bode well for him or the Bucs
” the reason seems to be that he personally didn’t want to be there for the next week and a half”
Or he might have some family stuff going on? He only owes the Bucs a reason, not the press.
If he was on your favorite team this would be a non-issue!
— It would be a major issue with me. Thank goodness he isn’t anymore. I’d have to cheer for another team until he was gone.
Litch referred all questions to the guy that runs the team, unfortunately he is not available for 10 days.
“absence was pre-planned”…. I’m NOW thinking Cruise in the Mediterranean with unrefundable tickets
After getting manhandled by the Dolphins defense all week, Brady told the coaches they have 2 weeks to fix the offense, or he is retiring again.
It’s not a concern until it is
He needs to get some experience under his belt.
When BB said in 2014 that Jimmy G could be Brady’s successor, we didn’t know he was referring to the Bucs
Do you think he’s making a recruiting trip to see #87 ?
Brady will be exposed behind that Swiss cheese offensive line!

Keenan McCardell is a bit past his prime
The farther you get in the playoffs, the less off-season time you have to recuperate. Considering the number of super bowls this man has been to lately, he’s usually at a disadvantage when it comes to rest and recovery. Seriously, this guy logs more minutes than anyone, and he has a shorter rest period. And he does it every year. They probably should lock him out of the building until week one.
I’m curious if this was something agreed upon as a stipulation for him coming out of retirement. He’ll go through training camp and take personal time through most of preseason before firing it back up. Or he actually enjoyed his 40 days of retirement and is actually contemplating stepping away after getting a taste of the game again. In the NFL, if you’re not all in, you’re out. I’ve seen enough of Brady to never count him out or doubt him. But we’re in unprecedented territory with him. For the sake of football I hope he suits up but you never know.
Giselle: “Excuse me, Tom, but there’s a ‘Mr. Ted Wells’ at the front door-…”
