The automotive YouTuber introduces us to the tiny Japanese Kei car which has some incredibly quirky features including not one but two sunroofs.
Doug DeMuro is one of the best automotive journalists there is. He always comes up with some highly entertaining reviews and checks out some truly quirky cars. And this one is very special. It is a Subaru Sambar, an epic little minivan that a viewer in California has since converted into a photo booth on wheels, called The Micro Machine. It is very cool and very fun, and a fantastic import from Japan. And there are a lot of quirks and features to it.
As some of you might have realized, the Sambar is a Japanese Kei car. It's unusual for a Kei car being a van, as most are just small cars. It has a four-cylinder engine under the hood, that makes 45 hp, and it is four-wheel drive. Instantly we see a great feature and that is its dual sliding doors, and inside are two little seats behind the two front seats. It offers a lot of interior room for its small size, although weirdly, the back seats do not have seatbelts. So, it's not the safest environment to be in, despite roll-down windows and a rear heater!

Another clever feature is that the front passenger seat and passenger seats behind it roll-down to form a small bed, something small American vans at the time did not have. The seats on the other side also fold down in the same manner. The back has a great quirk where a button in the trunk will allow you to fold down the rear bumper. And that bumper is in effect the hood, and allows full access to the engine of the Sambar and a clever packaging solution to the small size of the van. Another great bit of packaging is that the washer and coolant caps are nicely integrated into the rear frame, hidden under the trunk lid.

Amazingly, this van is a Super Deluxe version. And then the seats read Dias, and both of those are trim levels for this van. Space isn’t too bad in the front of the van though, especially as this is, after all, a Kei car. In the glove box is some stereo equipment which is quite funny, and a glove box itself is quite useful. And there are all manner of storage cubbies inside this small van.
Oh, and did we mention that it has two sunroofs?
